The cause of death was initially withheld, with his lawyer citing privacy concerns. As he became older, Brando had liver cancer and diabetes, which impaired his vision. On July 1, 2004, he passed away from heart and respiratory problems.

He passed away from respiratory failure on July 1, 2004, at the age of 80, at UCLA Medical Center. Longtime friend and producer Mike Medavoy was appointed as Brando’s estate executor in his will. Of course, Brando’s “Lying for a Living” class was included in that estate.
