Samia Suluhu Hassan was born on 27 January 1960 in Makunduchi, Sultanate of Zanzibar to her parents. Mama Samia Suluhu Hassan, as her friends and family refer to her, is from Zanzibar, a semi-autonomous territory that is primarily Muslim (approximately 99%). She holds Tanzanian nationality.
