Amara was born in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, on September 25, 1995. Of the five children born to Carolyn Lena Mickley and Humam Amara, the Jordanian-American is the youngest.

When Reem grew up, he lived in the U.S., Jordan, Egypt, the UAE and Iraq. Her family is based in Chicago, Illinois, and she was based there as well. She now lives in Los Angeles, California, where she continues to perform.

Dalia Amara, Reem’s sister, is an artist skilled in photography, video production, performance, and sculpture. She is based in New York, where at the School of Visual Arts she received an MFA.
