Significance of Lightsaber Colors For Jedi and Sith in Star Wars

Star Wars has impressed fans with space intricacies that put modern science fiction works to shame. From the first blue lightsaber held by Obi-Wan Kenobi in The New Hope, to the Yellow Rey Lightsaber in Rise of The Skywalker, Star Wars has cleverly and successfully ignited curiosity in eager lightsaber enthusiasts familiarizing them with the concept of color theory.

In the galactic world, where every corner is consumed by Sith politics, how can the iconic diplomats of the senate hold ordinary lightsabers?

Initially, George Lucas was not thrilled with the suggestion of incorporating colors into the cinematic landmark. However, as the franchise expanded with unexplored terrains, galactic warfare, and innovative character stories, the spark of curiosity for unique articulates had to be kept alive. So, the demand for upgrades of the iconic and symbolic Star Wars lightsaber weapon grew.

If every character in the canon and legends were to hold a lightsaber of the same color, pattern, size, and design the devoted Rebels fandom would have zoned out. Besides, to keep up with the grandeur of the Empire’s rule, a change was long due, to differentiate the peaceful and harmonious Jedi from the wicked Sith lords.

In this blog, we will uncover the significance of lightsaber colors, as there are many hues to unlock. Also, the meaning behind each color will be explored, because battlefields in The Clone Wars are lit with lightsabers hollering victory for Jedi.

As with the plethora of colors let’s see what shade calls out to your personality, as it did for the Jedi warriors.

Blue, Green  & Yellow: Colors of Bravery, Harmony and Independence

Jedi Order is a prosperous school of thought for the Jedi that teaches, individuals in robes, the importance of force, and how to use mystic power for their noble purpose. Not all Jedi share the same rank, as not everybody roots for the same Skywalker.

The time when humans from Brentaal colonized Muzara, was the time the Jedi Order was ruled by the class of Jedi wielding blue, green, and yellow lightsabers. The difference of colors distinguished the forced believers to be brave or betide as intellectuals.

The pacemakers, Jedi guardians, are symbols of bravery holding blue lightsabers. These virtuous Jedi are daring and befitted to stand firmly on the galactic frontlines. Tales of their daring personality and righteousness echo among the vast galaxy. Their impressive domineer set an inspiration for the Jedi younglings, that currently blue is the most prevalent light saber

Next, come the intellectual and spiritually wise Jedi Consular, who are no less in ranking, than the daring warriors. The holders of the green lightsaber, like the noble Yoda and wise yet maverick Qui Gon Jinn, are known to be in tune with nature’s whispers and the force’s thrilling extensions. Moreover, as senior members of the Jedi spiritual Order, their instinct was reliable and as firm as the dunes of Tatooine, showing goodwill and precision on the events of the future.

The third color of the set is the most controversial, fans like to pull it apart to find the real meaning. Perhaps because the yellow lightsaber has been held by personalities differing in force standing. From the yellow spikes of the loyal Temple guards to the investigative Jedi Consular, the vibrant hue has tested the responsibility and vigilance of the holders. Lastly, in Rise of the Skywalker, Rey’s yellow blade further cements the belief, that such cosmic characters are meant to be revolutionary for the light side of force.

Purple and Black: Colors of Mastry and Loyalty

Star Wars canon is filled with colors to throw off the focus and predictability of the viewers. As if color ranking in Jedi order was not enough there are force and nonforce users who use unusual colors to get their way around the principles of the universe.

Samuel L. Jackson better known as Mace Windu recognized for his ire and firmness demanded a color that suits his personality. Like a true Jedi, Mace Windu wilded a unique color matching his unconventional beliefs and force standing. As an important pillar of the Jedi Order, Mace admitted that his lightsaber should stand out on the battlefield to illuminate resistance to the dark side but the same Jedi passion a Sith would have. Outside the Canon, the purple lightsaber is associated with Jaina Solo, Ki Adi Mundi, and the young Vernestra Rwoh.

Finally, we talk about Darksaber, the fans’ favorite due to its unique design and cultural significance. Most famously associated with Mandalorians, the force community of class, rigid beliefs, and amazing costumes. The Draksaber’s rich history is loyal to its species (Children of the Watch), practicing almost similar upstanding metaphysical principles as the Jedi. much to our surprise Darksaber has been wilded by non-traditional Mandalorians like Pre Vizsla, Bo Ktan Kryze, and much to our horror, Moff Gideon and Drath Maul.

Red: The Blazing Color of the Villains

As with Jedi, which welcomed a variety of colors, Sith remained firm on retaining the red blaze. I assume they liked the reflection of the crimson red, giving a pretty villainous shade to their overall metallic costumes, far good of a wicked opportunity to pass up.

In a sense, the devotion and firmness like this is admirable. However, the admiration ends when you explore the significance of the color and its acquisition method. Sith are firm believers of passion and overriding emotion. So badass Darth and Count Dooku did not hesitate to fuse their hatred and anger on the kyber crystals turning them a permanent crimson color, forwarding their dominance over the force and non-agreement with the cowardly ways of the Jedi (their words!)

Star Wars has always been two steps ahead of the fan’s expectations. The legends consist of even rare colors directly linked to the Jedi, either that or indirectly influencing the course of the Galaxy, unknowingly helping the Jedi. You know what works for us, by keeping up the entertainment for the Star Wars day and complex trivia competitions.
