Justin Ray Gaethje was born in Safford, Arizona, on November 14, 1988. Carolina his mother, is of Mexican heritage from Sonora, Mexico, and John Ray Gaethje, his father, is of German descent. His mother worked as a postmaster, and his father, as well as both of his grandfathers, were copper miners. While serving in the United States Army, his paternal grandfather boxed. Ray Gaethje, Gaethje’s father, resigned as a copper miner in September 2019 after 36 years of service at the Morenci mine. Gaethje has two younger sisters. Marcus John Gaethje, his twin brother, also worked at the Morenci mine for over ten years.
