Otaibi, 33, was identified as a member of the “commando” gang at the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul, where Khashoggi was murdered on October 2, 2018. After Turkey issued an arrest warrant, he was pl aced on the Interpol red list. According to French radio station RTL, who broke the story, he was traveling under his true identity.

From French RTL radio, the man was held at the Roissy airport in Paris as he was about to take a trip to Riyadh.

According to Reuters, the detainee is Khaled Aedh Al-Otaibi, a former Saudi Royal Guard, and extradition proceedings to Turkey are expected to commence soon.

According to the source, he was on a French wanted list and was apprehended on the basis of a warrant issued by Turkey in 2019.

The arrest comes only days after French President Emmanuel Macron met with de facto ruler Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Saudi Arabia, making him the first senior Western leader to visit the country since Mr. Khashoggi’s death.
