Eliza Fletcher, also known as Lisa Fletcher, came from a wealthy family. She was born in 1987 and was 34 years old when she died. Father Beasley, his mother Adele, and her brother Gill are clearly seen losing control and crying. The family has also promised to pay a reward for any information leading to her safe return. Eliza Fletcher, 34, a teacher and mother of two, was last seen jogging near the University of Memphis campus around 4:30 a.m. on Friday when she was forced into a dark-colored SUV, according to police.

Her body was discovered behind a vacant duplex apartment in South Memphis on Monday afternoon, a day after Cleotha Abston, 38, was arrested on suspicion of her disappearance. Mr. Abston was charged with first-degree murder by the Memphis Police Department on Tuesday, in addition to the previously announced kidnapping charges. According to court records, Mr. Abston was in the S.U.V. used in the abduction.

According to court records, officers were called at 7:45 a.m. on Friday after Ms. Fletcher’s husband, Richard Fletcher, reported that she had not returned home.

When Ms. Fletcher gone by, someone exited the SUV, ran toward her, and forced her into the vehicle side of the vehicle, according to video surveillance. According to court records, “there appeared to be a struggle.”

A person biking in the area around 6:45 a.m. found Ms. Fletcher’s cellphone and gave it to her family, who turned it over to the police, according to court records. In the same area, the biker found a pair of shoes.

According to court records, DNA testing linked the shoes to Mr. Abston, and video evidence also showed him wearing the shoes. Using cell phone data, the authorities tracked Mr. Abston’s phone to a location near where Ms. Fletcher was forced into the S.U.V.

Mr. Abston’s brother, Mario Abston, 36, was also arrested over the weekend but was not believed to be involved in the kidnapping, according to police. Mario Abston is charged with drug and weapon possession.

The investigation is still ongoing. It is too early to know if more people will be charged, the officials said during a Tuesday morning news conference. The place and manner of Ms. Fletcher’s death were still under investigation, Memphis Police Chief C.J. Davis said.

Cleotha Abston has a long criminal history

According to court records, Cleotha Abston was sentenced to 24 years in prison in 2001 for the kidnapping of Kemper Durand, a well-known Memphis lawyer, as well as aggravated robbery. In the abduction case, the formal charge was “especially aggravated kidnapping.” He was set to be released in November 2020.
