She began her political career in 2007 as an advisor to senior management at the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status in Surco and later as the head of the local office. She ran for mayor of Surquillo with the Peru Libre Party in 2018. She ran in extraordinary parliamentary elections two years later, in 2020, but did not win a seat.

She began her political career in 2007 as a senior management advisor at Surco’s National Registry of Identification and Civil Status, later becoming the head of the local office. In 2018, she ran for mayor of Surquillo with the Peru Libre Party. She ran in the 2020 extraordinary parliamentary elections but did not win a seat. She worked for the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec) before taking over as its owner between 2007 and 2021.

His first major political challenge came in 2018, when he ran for mayor of Surquillo, one of Lima’s districts. She did so on behalf of the Peru Libertario party, later renamed Peru Libre, for which she would run as Castillo’s running mate in 2021. She served as Minister of Development and Social Inclusion from the start of the Castillo administration, where she promoted various care plans for vulnerable sectors. Dina Boluarte took office as Peru’s first female president on Wednesday amidst a political uproar following the impeachment trial and arrest of her predecessor and former boss Pedro Castillo for attempting to forcefully shut down Congress. Boluarte, 60, who started the day as vice president and next in line to replace Castillo, faces the unenviable challenge of healing a divided Peru where the presidency has been locked in battle with Congress for more than a year.

“I assume in accordance with the Constitution of  Peru , from this moment until July 26, 2026 ,” when Castillo’s term was scheduled to end, Boluarte said during his oath. The Constitution of Peru indicates that the current  first vice president governs the country until the end of the constitutional period.
