His first major political challenge came in 2018, when he ran for mayor of Surquillo, one of Lima’s districts. She did so on behalf of the Peru Libertario party, later renamed Peru Libre, for which she would run as Castillo’s running mate in 2021. She served as Minister of Development and Social Inclusion from the start of the Castillo administration, where she promoted various care plans for vulnerable sectors. “I assume in accordance with the Constitution of Peru , from this moment until July 26, 2026 ,” when Castillo’s term was scheduled to end, Boluarte said during his oath.
