Due to financial cuts, she released by WCW on February 2, 2001. A month later, WCW was purchased by its rival, the World Wrestling Federation.
Spruill chose to continue wrestling after being released from WCW, spending eight months at Dusty Rhodes’ Turnbuckle Championship Wrestling training camp in Kennesaw, Georgia. In 2003, she worked for Xtreme Pro Wrestling as Lucy, Vic Grimes’ manager. She posed for a website run by wrestling superstars Francine and Missy Hyatt in June 2005. Spruill made her Shimmer Women Athletes debut as Daffney in April 2007. Spruill streamed a live video on Instagram on September 1, 2021, reading a suicide note while carrying what seemed to be a firearm and asked that her brain be donated for chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) testing. Concerned fans took to social media to show their support for Spruill, and police dispatched to prior known residences until her family could provide an updated address. At the request of Spruill’s family, Shimmer wrestler Lexie Fyfe disclosed her death online the next day.
An official with the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed her death but did not reveal the cause. However, according to a Gwinnett County Police Department investigation, she died of an apparent gunshot wound to the chest.
