Professional life: When did he start his career?

Joan Jett, Brian James, Brian May, and Steve Jones are among Smear’s influences. He also said that John McKay’s “all the guitar playing” on Siouxsie and the Banshees’ debut album “truly impressed me.” Smear and Darby Crash established the Germs with bassist Lorna Doom and drummer Dottie Danger (the nickname of Belinda Carlisle, who later fronted The Go- Go’s) as teenagers in 1976. Smear was the only one in the band who knew anything about music.  Pat claimed that he didn’t own a guitar for the majority of his time in Germany, instead “borrowing from whoever we were performing with.”

George was a member of the deathrock band 45 Grave with Don Bolles for a short time (the former drummer for the Germs). They recorded a 7″ called Black Cross at this time, as well as additional songs that would subsequently appear on 45 Grave’s 1987 collection CD Autopsy.
Kurt Cobain, the vocalist of Nirvana, called Smear in 1993 and asked him to join the band as a second guitarist for an upcoming tour. Smear initially assumed it was a joke played on him by his friend, Carlos “Cake” Nunez; however, Courtney Love had told Smear a few days earlier that Cobain was going to contact him.

Nirvana was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on April 11, 2014. Despite the fact that Smear was not honored, he joined Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic on stage, along with Joan Jett, Lorde, St. Vincent, and Kim Gordon, to play Nirvana songs.
On Saturday, October 6, 2018, at Glen Helen Amphitheater in San Bernardino, California, the surviving Nirvana members reunited alongside Joan Jett, John McCauley of Deer Tick, and Brody Dalle of The Distillers for a six-song encore set to finish out Cal Jam 18.
