Referee Mathieu Raynal replaced Andrew Brace as an assistant referee in World Cup semi-final clash between South Africa and England at the Stade de France. Catalan Mathieu Raynal embraced a career as a referee at the age of 20.
He was chosen to officiate World Cup games in Japan in 2019. He calls a new championship final between Stade Toulouse and Stade Rochelais for the 2020–2021 season at the Stade de France.
He was selected to officiate the championship match between Racing 92 and the Toulon Rugby club in 2015–2016, which took place at Camp Nou de Barcelona.
