Authorities say at least three people were killed and three others were injured in a mass shooting Thursday at a manufacturing business north of Smithsburg, including the suspected gunman and a Maryland State Police officer.
Mark Alan Frey, 50, Charles Edward Minnick, Jr., 31, and Joshua Robert Wallace, 30, all worked at Columbia Machine Shop on Bikle Road in Smithsburg, a concrete product and mold making firm.

According to the sheriff’s office, Maryland State Police officers on their way to the plant spotted the suspect based on a description of him and his vehicle. When they attempted to stop the vehicle, the man “immediately” began firing at them with a semiautomatic handgun, injuring one of the troopers, according to the sheriff’s office. Troopers fired back.
The injured trooper was treated and discharged from the hospital, but the suspect’s condition was not immediately disclosed.

The suspect was identified as a 23-year-old West Virginia man, but his identity was not released because he had not been charged, according to Sheriff Douglas W. Mullendore of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. Smithsburg, according to Mayor Donald L. At a press conference, Washington County Sheriff Douglas W. Mullendore told reporters that investigators have not yet determined a motive for the workplace shooting, which occurred at about 2:30 p.m. ET. The suspect has not been charged and hence has not been identified, according to Mullendore.

The mass shooting at a Maryland is the fourth gun violence in America
Americans have been mourning the loss of life due to gun violence in Texas, New York, California, Oklahoma, and now Maryland in recent weeks. The shooting happened after a string of high-profile mass killings, including one in Uvalde, Texas, and another in Buffalo, New York.
The Smithsburg, Maryland shooting comes less than a week after a mass shooting at a medical center in Tulsa, Oklahoma in which four people were killed.
On May 24, a tragic mass school shooting in Uvalde, Texas left 19 children and two teachers dead.
