When did he start his YouTube career?

Fischbach created a YouTube channel under the name “Markiplier” on March 6, 2012, and released his first video on April 4, 2012. As a result, the moniker “Markiplier” was born, a combination of Mark and multiplier. Fischbach’s first series was a walkthrough of Amnesia: The Dark Descent, a video game. YouTube blocked Fischbach’s AdSense account after he played numerous other game series, including Penumbra and Dead Space, and he started a new channel, markiplierGAME, on May 26, 2012.

Fischbach began living with fellow YouTubers Daniel Kyre and Ryan Magee, who founded and run the YouTube sketch comedy and music channel Cyndago, in 2015. Following the death of Daniel Kyre, Cyndago disintegrated. The ensemble produced forty sketches and fourteen original songs before disbanding, several of which featured Fischbach. Fischbach went on pause from September 17, 2015 to October 5, 2015, following the death of Daniel Kyre and the disbandment of Cyndago. On October 15, 2015, he returned and hit a milestone of ten million subscribers.

Fischbach revealed in October 2019 that A Heist with Markiplier, a YouTube Originals production, will be a new Choose Your Own Adventure-style story similar to A Date With Markiplier. The series, which was created by Fischbach and Rooster Teeth, has 31 different endings and incorporates other YouTubers like Rosanna Pansino, Matthew Patrick, and Game Grumps.

Unus Annus (2019–2020)

On November 15, 2019, Fischbach and fellow YouTuber Ethan Nestor (a.k.a. CrankGameplays) started Unus Annus, a channel where they planned to upload a video every day for a year, after which the channel and its videos would be erased. The channel quickly gained popularity, with 1 million members in the first five days and 4.56 million in the last few minutes, as well as over 11.5 million video views in the first week. On November 14, 2020, at 12:00 a.m. PST, Fischbach and Nestor removed the channel after a last 12-hour live feed that peaked at over 1.5 million concurrent viewers.
