Her surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center went successfully.The 60-year-old two-time Emmy Award winner announced on Monday that she was having a part of her left lung removed. Griffin’s spokeswoman tells PEOPLE, “She is presently out of surgery and everything went smoothly, per her doctor.” She revealed her health news alongside a hidden pill addiction she’s been battling, which became so severe that she attempted suicide in 2020. On Monday, the 60-year-old comedian revealed on social media that she had been diagnosed with cancer, stating that it was stage one and that her doctors were “very optimistic.”

“I’ve got to tell you guys something,” the star of Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List began her post. “I’m about to go into surgery to have half of my left lung removed. Yes, I have lung cancer even though I’ve never smoked!”She added, “Of course I am fully vaccinated for COVID. The consequences for being unvaccinated would have been even more serious. Please stay up to date on your medical checkups. It’ll save your life.”
