On August 2, 2017, at a White House news briefing, Acosta got into a heated dispute with White House senior policy advisor Stephen Miller about the Trump administration’s support for the RAISE Act. On August 2, 2018, shortly after Kaitlan Collins was barred from the White House’s official press conference and President Trump’s statement that “FAKE NEWS media… is the enemy of the American People,” Acosta asked White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders if she tried to distance herself from that statement.
