Following a brief illness, Williams passed away in Los Angeles on Wednesday at the age of 75 on January 25, 2023, according to a statement from her children Zak and Emily Hudson and family representative Liza Cranis. On the well-known sitcom Laverne & Shirley, Cindy Williams played Shirley opposite Penny Marshall’s Laverne. Her family announced her passing on Monday.

Cynthia Jane Williams was born on August 22, 1947 in Los Angeles, California, U.S. to Beachard Williams and his wife. When she was a year old, the family relocated to Dallas, Texas, before moving back to Los Angeles when she was ten. Cindy grew up with their siblings, a sister named Carol Ann. Williams was a Catholic and held American nationality.

Prior to acting at Birmingham High School, when Williams graduated in 1965, Williams wrote and performed as a child at a church. Her major at Los Angeles City College was theater.
