Why was the UT basketball coach suspended? Arrested

The University of Texas at Austin has suspended men’s basketball coach Chris Beard indefinitely due to a third-degree felony charge of domestic violence. Beard, 49, was arrested early Monday morning after Austin police responded to a 911 call at a home in Tarrytown and found him strangling his fiancée. He was released from Travis County Jail on Monday afternoon after posting a $10,000 bond.

While police were on the scene, Beard stated that he had audio recordings of the incident that proved he was not the primary aggressor. According to police, Beard refused to share the recordings.

Beard’s attorney, Perry Minton, told the American-Statesman: “Coach Beard is 100% innocent of these charges. He should never have been arrested. The complainant wants him released immediately and all charges dismissed.  It is truly inconceivable.”
