When did she start her career?

Lyngstad has mentioned in various interviews that her grandmother used to sing old Norwegian songs to her, which sparked her interest in music. She shown musical talent from an early age, dating back to her elementary school years. Her instructor frequently requested her to sing in front of the class on Fridays, and she quickly gained a reputation for her wonderful voice both at school and in the neighborhood. The beautiful singer grandmother pushed her to sing, but she never came to any of her performances, according to Lyngstad. Her grandma died just before ABBA was created, so she never saw the group’s triumph.

1970–1971: Pre-ABBA

Frida, her first album, was released in 1971 by EMI Columbia and was produced by her then-fiancé Benny Andersson. The album earned high accolades from critics and the press, who praised Lyngstad’s voice for its precision and flexibility. Frida continued to act in cabarets, on tour, and on television and radio. Her friendship with Björn Ulvaeus and Agnetha Fältskog, as well as her relationship with Andersson, led to the founding of ABBA. Lyngstad changed record labels in 1972, following five years with EMI Sweden. He signed with the Polar Music label. She recorded the single “Man vill ju leva lite dessemellan,” which went on to become her second Swedish No. 1 hit.

1982–1984: International solo career

Frida recorded and published her first post-ABBA solo album in 1982, during ABBA’s final year as a touring band. This was also her debut English-language solo album. Something’s Going On, Frida’s album produced by Phil Collins, was an international triumph. Many of the songs had a much rockier sound, with Phil Collins’ drum sound playing a major role, especially on the lead single, “I Know There’s Something Going On,” which topped the charts in Belgium and Switzerland and was a top 5 hit in Australia, Austria, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, South Africa, and Sweden.

The song and video were highly promoted and broadcast on MTV in the United States, and the single reached No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 (and No. 9 on Radio & Records) in March 1983, making it the 20th best-selling single in the country at the time. The song was merely a minor hit in the United Kingdom, peaking at No. 43.

Shine was Lyngstad’s next album (1984). Steve Lillywhite, noted for his work with musicians such as Peter Gabriel, U2, the Rolling Stones, Morrissey, and Kirsty MacColl, produced this album at Studios De La Grande Armée in Paris, France. When this album was created, Lillywhite was only 29 years old, and he gave Frida a very experimental sound while also managing to establish a calm atmosphere in the studio. The album was not as well received as intended, however it did enter the Top 20 in a number of European nations, peaking at No. 6 in Sweden.
