Young joined the group after a successful audition, and the quintet, which had previously auditioned for a deal with Motown, returned with a song composed by Dobbins called “Please Mr. Postman.” On their second studio album With the Beatles, the Beatles recorded “Please Mr. Postman” in 1963. The Carpenters’ rendition of “Please Mr. Postman” reached No. 1 worldwide in 1975, and it was one of the duo’s 12 million-selling Gold-certified songs in the United States.
