Sauli Niinistö is a Finnish politician who has been the country’s president since 2012, the 12th person to hold the position. Haukio graduated from the University of Turku with a master’s degree in political science in 2001. She worked at the University of Turku as a research assistant and then as a communications officer. From 2003 to 2005, she worked as a legislative assistant, and from 2005 to 2012, she worked for the National Coalition Party. Since February 2012, Haukio has been the program manager for the Turku Book Fair. Haukio is the author of three poetry volumes. Runo-Kaarina, the first, won a national debut poetry contest in 1999.

“Today is a watershed moment in history. “A new era has begun,” Niinisto declared.

The decision is expect to be approve by the Finnish Parliament in the next few days, but it is only a formality.
