Kim Björkegren began his coaching career in his hometown of Linkoping, where he coached the men’s division 4 team for Karle IF. After ascending the ranks with men’s teams such as Kisa BK and IK Gauthiod Kim began coaching women’s football in 2016 when he accepted the position of head coach for Hovås/Billdal. Under Kim’s leadership, Hovås/Billdal won the Division 1 title in 2018 and secured promotion to the Elitettan, the second tier of women’s football in Sweden. Kim’s success with Hovås/Billdal earned him the opportunity to coach Kungsbacka DFF in the Damallsvenskan, Sweden’s top women’s football league.
Björkegren succeeded Martin Sjögren as Linköpings FC manager in 2017 with the intention of defending the title. Despite losing Pernille Harder, Fridolina Rolfö, and Stina Blackstenius before the season, Björkegren and Linköping won the 2017 Damallsvenskan with two rounds left.
