On August 17, 1963, she was born in South Bend, Indiana. She was 58 years old when she died. Her mother, Martha C. (née Martin), worked as a meat cutter at a local grocery store, and her father, Raymond B. Walorski, was a firefighter and the owner of an appliance company. She was of Polish and German ethnicity. Walorski was up in the Gilmer Park area of Chicago with her two elder brothers.

She went to Hay Elementary School as a child and graduated from Riley High School in 1981. She then attended Liberty Baptist College from 1981 to 1983 before graduating from Taylor University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications and public administration in 1985.

Where had she worked prior to becoming a politician?

From 1985 to 1989, Walorski worked as a television reporter for WSBT-TV, a CBS station in South Bend, and from 1989 to 1991, she was the executive director of the St. Joseph County Humane Society. She was hired director of institutional development at Ancilla College in 1991, a post she held until 1996, when she was appointed director of membership at the St. Joseph County Chamber of Commerce. From 1997 to 1999, she was the director of annual giving at Indiana University South Bend.

Walorski relocated to Romania in 2000 and established Impact International, an organization that provides medical supplies and care to underprivileged children. She worked as a Christian missionary in Romania before returning to the United States in 2004.

Republican Representative Jackie Walorski was murdered a t the age of 58, on August 3, 2022. Walorski and four others were killed near Nappanee, Indiana. They were killed when a northbound vehicle on State Road 19 turned left and struck head-on with Walorski’s vehicle, which was driving southbound.

Walorski’s communications director, Emma Thomson, and her district director, Zachery Potts, were also slain, as were the drivers of the other vehicles and two other passengers in her vehicle. The accident happened near the intersection with State Road 119.

 House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy announced Walorski’s death.

“Dean Swihart, Jackie’s husband, was just informed by Elkhart County Sheriff’s office that Jackie was killed in a car accident this afternoon. She has returned home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers. We will have no further comment at this time,” read a message from the congresswoman’s office that McCarthy tweeted.

President Joe Biden offered his condolences in a statement Wednesday, saying that he and first lady Jill Biden were “shocked and saddened” when they heard about the car crash. 

“We may have represented different parties and disagreed on many issues, but she was respected by members of both parties for her work on the House Ways and Means Committee on which she served,” Biden said of Walorski. He cited her work as co-chair of the House Hunger Caucus and said that the White House’s conference on that topic next month would be “marked by her deep care for the needs of rural America.”
