Southern Baptist Webster worships at First Baptist Church of Central Florida. He is on the board of trustees for the University of Central Florida. Six of his children were born to him and his wife Sandra E. “Sandy” (Jordan) Webster. They have 17 grandchildren as of 2018.
The Advanced Training Institute, which Bill Gothard created, provided the curriculum that the Websters used to homeschool their kids. Their son John wed Alyssa Bates, a child of Gil and Kelly Bates, in May 2014. Webster was born on April 27, 1949 in Charleston, West Virginia, the son of Mildred Rada (Schoolcraft), a nurse, and Dennis Webster. He was raised in Orlando, Florida, where his family moved when Webster was seven years old.
Daniel went at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he was a Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity member and the student government chaplain from 1970 to 1971. He earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering in 1971. After graduating, Webster’s student deferment for the Vietnam War expired, making him available for conscription into the military. However, he was not recruited since he failed the physical owing to persistent foot issues that prevent him from standing for extended periods of time. Florida House of Representatives, Academic Qualification
The 1985 Home Education Program Act, which authorized homeschooling in Florida, was Webster’s first piece of legislation to pass into law. He views it as his most important piece of legislation. He educated his six children at home, continues to support homeschooling, and belongs to the Institute in Basic Life Principles, a nondenominational Christian group.
In 1997, when Webster was the Speaker of the House, he stressed that any measure providing funding for schools had to meet the demands of all school districts while not increasing taxes. Though he believed the crowding issue was being exaggerated for political reasons, he consented to a school development plan funded by borrowing up to $2.5 billion in bonds. Additionally, he supported legislation in 1998 that streamlined and improved pre-kindergarten education and offered training to parents who homeschool their kids.
